Well I met the young feller and his charming wife at one of my shows at the Mamateek in Corner Brook. Now Kev, I knows ya had a good laugh at the codliver oil bottle with the senior folks. Glad to see yer ma-in-law enjoying the songs and stories too.
Keep up the good reporting on your trip! I'm glad we got a pic but sad to see my salt n pepper hat was left on in the car after the show when we went down for a llle something to wet our thirst!

Howdy Folks:
Posting from the mainland tonight Had to be tied down and dragged onto the ferry - I did NOT want to leave The Rock!! I was having way too much fun and there's still too much I want to see and do on the island!!
Spent Tuesday night in Corner Brook. As you can see from Mike's post, we had a lot of fun at The Sharecroppers show singing along (I finally have the chorus to I'se the B'y memorized now), laughing at the stories and jokes, learning some new Newfie terms and expressions (reminds me to buy a dictionary), got some CD's for the trip home, had a wonderful time after the show talking with Mike over a cold one. It was a great way to close out our vacation on a high note!
Wedneday - time to pack up and catch the evening ferry back to Sydney. Funny note - we arrived on The Rock in the fog and we left The Rock in the fog (does the sun ever shine in Port Aux Basques?) However, it was smooth sailing again - even though it rained all the way across.
Staying overnight in Sydney - and hitting the road home in the morning.
Thanks once again to everyone for making this the best vacation a feller could hope for. I fell in love with Newfoundland and its people - gained a deeper appreciation of my heritage and my roots - and I can't wait to come back again!
God guard thee Newfoundland! |

Canajun, it's good to know you enjoyed your visit to The Rock. Your father would have been so happy about that. Next time you'll have to stay longer.
Al, you sure have a "bird's eye" view of that nest.
Good lord, we had some hard rain last night. It woke me up coming in the bedroom window.
We were at a dance in Holyrood last night and The MCCarthys played but there was a fellow from Bell Island playing with them, Nate Hammond from The Green. They were good. They organize the Accordion Idol contest on the island too they said and will be playing at the dance Sat. Night. They're trying to get the boat to run later that night but don't know yet if that will happen. Any of you on the island going to that dance?
The only person who could ever make you happy is YOU. |

Canajun..... aurevoir my friend. It was a joy seeing you and da missus and knowing you actually got to witness one of my shows....even if it was just a two-man show that night!! We gave three part harmony and interchanged instruments even in the middle of a song just to keep you entertained!!! Only canajun (Kev) can explain that one...but it's true!!
Also enjoyed seeing again yer wife's mom...she is lookin good and can talk up a starm!!! Wonderful lady still livin in Corner Brook!
Glad we had time to share stories later over a brew (and coffee for da missus!) Your relating the Bell Island experience was exactly how I had envisioned it....only you filled in all the missing parts.
Kev, don't be years now before you come back, eh?? We're playing in Woody Point Heritage Theatre on Aug 14th/2010. Maybe youcan sneak back to da Province of yur father and experience the TRIO and not duo!!!
Note::::Pic says 13 yrs ago...but that was pasted on there 7 years ago!! We're celebrating our 22nd year....don't mind the math but it's true!!!
~Mike

Howdy Folks:
Just wanted to let you know - we're now home safe and sound! Really wish I could of stayed longer - being there was defintely a feeling of being home - it must be a genetic thing I got from Dad!!
But, I am ever so glad I made this trip! So many of you fine people went out of your way to make this lost son feel like a member of the family - thank you again so very much!
I now have a deeper and better understanding of my father's early life, his upbringing, and why he was always proud to be a Bell Islander and a Newfoundlander! Makes me wish I was born there so I could proudly claim it too!
I know I'll be back - to see more, to learn more, to understand more!
Best Regards.
Kev |

Glad you got home safe & sound Canajun. You can certainly claim Newfoundland as home.
Al, your family is all raised, how sweet. They'll be back to visit you and next year there'll be 4 nests on your window.
How's everyone doing?
We're hoping to get over to he island tomorrow for the cemetery mass. I hoe the weather is good, the forecast is good.
Have a good one everyone. |

Hi All
Chick/Kev it was nice past month watching both Parents build the nest
and have their Family and both doing their part.
i have a lot of activity in the back yard with wild animals
lot of rabbits possum and small animals so as a rule always
Hawks and Falcons over head looking for a meal
so was nice to see the robins hatch and fly away
Especially right out side Bedroom window Had to check on them every morning
going to miss the little rascals
But as Clay said they may drop me a line |

wow a flurry of activity in here lately..glad you made it home Kev..and sorry chick we won't be goingto the dance next week as we will be in Twillingate for their festival..never been to that part of the province. If u make it over today(I expect traffic in the cove will be crazy) drop in for a tea or coffee if u feel like it). If you need a drive give us a call(If u decide to leave the car in the cove and walk on) that is.. |

My condolences to John Hammond's Family. He was a nice man.
Thanks for the offer of tea Clayton. My sister is home and 6 of us went over, what a beautiful day it was. Don said he saw you down by the beach. When we were in the line up to come back we saw you go down and then up the Beach Hill on your motor cycle. Although we were up past Dwyer's Rd. the boats were load and go so we didn't have to wait too long. We were behind a big motor home and he didn't get on but they took us. Don has a little Nissan Cube now so we didn't need much space.
Enjoy your trip to Twillingate Clayton, I heard it beautiful there.
Sea, it was so nice to see you yesterday. You looked great.
Have a good one everyone. |
