Anne, it doesn't have to be that way. We can have good fun or debate in here. If things turn nasty, all the Moderators have to do is eliminate the thread, or the comment preferrably if it is illegal, profane or a personal attack. In worse cases, people can be banned.

I am glad GR acted on both threads. One was illegal in the title and the other a possible personal attack on himself as moderator...even if his name was not mentioned.

Maybe your brawling school kids is an accurate statement. However we'll hope for the best.

One final point: The title of a thread can be cleverly written or humorous.....but not an attack on someone.

Mike, I can't figure out why you think the title of Clayton's thread was an attack on anyone.

I don't think that Clayton really wanted to bar Up Along from posting in his post.

IMO, in view of recent uncomplimentary threads about police, Clayton simply didn't want his new thread about the death of the policeman to turn into something awful about "pigs".

It turned into something against two mods instead.

Mary...let's call a spade a spade here. The thread title in question was this:

Officer shot ..Up along pse stay out of this thread..
Author: clayton

That was wrong. He could have pm 'd him privately instead. He could have stated in the thead that "I am not interested in any police bashing in this thread." Clayton could have asked all to respect the story if he felt he needed to ask this.

Instead, he publicly stated in the thread that he did not want Upalong to enter this thread. That is wrong. That is unjust. Is it illegal? Well, it's like an attack on a person's integrity to publicly state he is not wanted or welcome in a public forum.

When I saw this, I knew this was wrong. I knew it was fueling a fire.

I acted and spoke out on this hoping the mods would quickly edit or eliminate the title.

As I said, let's call a spade a spade. I think you appreciate Clayton. I certainly do. But Clayton is not immune to error making. Maybe it was an honest mistake. Maybe an over reaction on his part. Maybe he was just joking. Maybe he was secretly hoping to flush Upalong out. I don't know. I can't judge him. I can only call it as I see it. Yes, as I see it publicly stated.

What happened after with Upalong's thread was partly a result of the first thread. Perhaps an act of revenge, anger, old feud,...whatever you wish to cal it.

It's all very unfortunate. I just got my Downhomer today in the mail. It's too bad this kitchen at times doesn't reflect the good nature of its Magazine.

Exactly Superdude, that is a great example of someone making a thread and a few people discussing the subject (astrology) rationally.

How's things Superman? Havn't seen you around in a spell, is everything cool? Have a great evening sir.
The people on this site deserve a better class of pot stirrer, and I'm gonna give to them...

WOW! KP that picture is marvelous. The bright colors to the dark misty trees and everything in between is perfect. The feeling of loneliness and neglect in the lower right disappears as you look across and upwards to the upper left to the well kept houses where people are settled down for a night's rest.

That picture is a book in my mind. I only seen one other picture in my life that had this effect on me, and that was in Life magazine. Tks for showing us this.

Mike Madigan, reluctantly, I shall have to agree with you, that it was wrong for anyone to order someone not to respond to their threads.

IMO, it is sad that anyone would even think it is necessary to encourage someone whose unfavourable views on the police establishment is well known, to stay away. I think all Clayton wanted to do was to start a nice tribute thread in honor of this policeman.

A saying I have heard more than once is, if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all. I think this is more like what Clayton had in mind.

But, you might have opened a Pandora's box this week. Since you started moderating outside of the moderator's forum, we might now expect to see more of you complaining about other instances which also don't seem fair. Clayton is by no means the only "offender" in this kitchen. His "mistake" is minor compared to some of the posts I've "seen" in here. It is even minor compared to the thread calling the police pigs, IMO. Sometimes what you or I find tolerable is not necessarily tolerable to everyone else.

You said, "I acted and spoke out on this hoping the mods would quickly edit or eliminate the title." You could have sent them a PM, as you thought Clayton should have done.

Just for the record...There is NOBODY in this site that I respect more than I do Clayton..I read and enjoy each and every one ofhis posts..

For whatever reason he did it, I do believe that Clayton was wrong in this one..First he asked that another poster not to respond in his thead..That is something that I don't agree with but Clayton did it and that is where he should have left it..The very first posting by clayton in the thread he called up along a SOB...very much uncalled for after he already asked that poster to stay out of his thread.. Up along then defended his right to post in the thread and clayton told him to F off ( later deleted ). Like myself, upalong don't take these things lightly and he rebutted in the like.. Too bad for up along I guess.
