I would just like to share some of my photos from you of my hometown of Buchans, Newfoundland. I hope you all enjoy.
I would like to hear of any old stories you may have, fond memories, etc.

Hello;
I'll get to your website eventually but first I'd like to tell you I had two uncles who
worked the mine in Buchans;
Obe and Graham Penny.Both gone now,Both were from Salmon Cove.They use to
drive back and forth to work there.
Both, remembered with fondness. |

Thank you for such nice replies!!
My grandfather Raymond Luscombe (my father is Lloyd Luscombe) also made the pilgrimage from his hometown (Loone Bay) to work here in the ASARCO mines accompanied by his wife, Sadie. They raised 14 children, most of the boys also worked in the mines (George, Jack, Sandy, Bruce, etc.)
Mining is still deeply rooted here, my husband and father now work in the mine in nearby Millertown (Duck Pond). Keeping traditions alive here! |

My father worked on that deck head, Renee. He and mom met in Buchans and lived there for a few years. Way back in the 1940's. Fred Wells his name was. He passed away nearly a year ago. They talked about Buchans many, many times. My cousin still lives there. Malcolm Walsh. |

A little fella out trick or treatin' dressed as a pirate stopped at an older lady's house and knocked at the door.
"Trick or Treat!", he said when she answered the door.
"What are you supposed to be?", asked the lady.
"A Pirate.", replied the lad.
"Where are your Buchaneers?", she politely asked with a smile.
"Under my Buckin' hat!" the lad was quick to answer. |

No, dorymate, it wouldn't have been. Dad was born in Springdale. |
