That's not a problem for me NE, and I hope members take us up on your offer. I love sharing what little I know and this helps me learn a little more too.
Also, if anyone loves a song they don't have, or an oldie they would like to hear again, just ask. One of us will have it or know where to get it for you. We may not hit the 100% mark but I bet we'll come close to it.

I noticed some have uploaded .mp3's of higher bitrate than 128 kbps. This will cause hesitation on slower netorks and at times when the server is humping due to demand.
For the benefit of those with slower networks, I suggest to re-encode your files to 128 kbps. You can use Audacity 1.3.10, a free audio editor/encoder. You will also need the Lame encoder to export to .mp3 (a license issue). Note, their version 1.2.6 link is unavailable at this time.
Audacity 1.3.10 AND Lame Encoder

Thanks for the Media Player, NE. BTW, the saying in your signature would probably be more accurate if it read...
GIVE A MAN A FISH & YOU FEED HIM FOR A DAY...TEACH A MAN TO FISH & HE WILL SPEND ALL DAY OUT IN A BOAT DRINKING BEER...LOL |

Got a few done NE. Still Christmas so I will put if what I came across there. Got interrupted when I checked the Kitchen. It went down at 3am and I thought it was for maintenance (it happened before) but this time it seems to have come right back up without knowing it and I missed all the fun. I'll upload them now before the next Christmas spook comes along. |

Hey Chick, feel free to upload your music to it. I don't know if Apple has a built in ftp client. If not you can use this Free FTP Client for your MAC |

Anybody ever use the website LogMeIn?
It's great for remote access. I am at my girlfriend's place using her wireless laptop. With LogMeIn I am logged into my work's server which is connected to NE's music server. With Logmein (FireFox Tab 1) I'm utilizing my media tools and converting mp3's to 128 Kbps and uploading to my folder on The DH Media Player (FireFox Tab 2) I am logged into my girlfriend's desktop and playing tunes in background with the DH Media Player Last Of All (FireFox Tab 3)...I am using LogMeIn to access my apartment server which is being used to type this message |

You have GB or TB in free space? I have 130,000 mp3's from every genre. It'll take awhile to convert to 128 kbps The DHMP allows "Moi" to play tunes from various locations |

Dwayne I've been using LogMeIn for a long time too. I just recently created a whole data base of songs for my church to use on the projection during services right from my own computer at home. I also use it to help friends and family if they are having computer trouble. It is way better than remote assistance thru msn messenger.. |

Dwane that's quite a collection. I don't think the host will support 130,000 songs, and most definitely not provide bandwidth. That's approx 400gb storage for that quantity of average length songs.
Maybe not a good idea to upload a large collection, since there is no guarantee of security should their server crash or service terminated otherwise. |

FOR INFO
With NE's permission I have been re-encoding those songs higher than 128 Kbps to 128 Kbps. NE has explained in this thread why this is necessary. We understand that not all users will understand bit rates and throughput or be familiar with re-encoding, so we get some songs with higher bit rates ranging from 160 Kbps to 320 Kbps.
Some may rip music at these high rates for the quality, or may not even know what rate they are using for ripping. So if you happen to download your own music to your Hard Drive for any reason you will find it is at the lower 128 Kbps, which is near CD quality.
For those that don't know it, this also saves you Hard Drive space as it creates smaller files and most ears can't detect the difference in quality. |

NE maybe you should put a cap of 10-20 gb per user. Every few months I can change the upload genre to suite my own personal use. BTW, have you ever tried a free utility called Teracopy?
TeraCopy is a compact program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed, providing the user a lot of features: Copy files faster, it uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives, you can pause and resume file transfers. Pause copy process at any time to free up system resources and continue with a single click. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skips the file, not terminating the entire transfer. Interactive file list, It shows failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only problem files. Shell integration. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual. |

Hello Dwayne (and the Kitchen gang), the intention is to make this an enjoyable player for everybody. I prefer that folk upload a just few of their favorites to the site rather than complete collections. 10 to 20 gb per user (approx 4000 to 8000 average length songs) would result in excessive bandwidth usage, and I would have to remove it. (The host monitors bandwidth usage).
In addition we could run into copyright issues, even though the folders aren't indexed or public. Rather it's intended for the enjoyment of the small (Kitchen family) group only. For this reason, I would request that nobody copy mp3's uploaded by others, otherwise the player may have to be removed.
Guys, thanks for your understanding. Let's keep it enjoyable for all.

Edit:
Oh, yeah, if anybody is interested in their own site for approx $4.00 to $6.00 per month where you can do this sorth of thing and very much more, I suggest StartLogic. They are routinely rated in the top 5 or 10 hosts, and their uptime and support is tops. All you need is a domain name, which they register free for you, with a small annual fee to maintain. |
